Food Runner

Position Summary

At Ocean Mist, Food Runners are an essential connection between our kitchen and dining room. During peak summer business, our kitchen produces hundreds of meals each day, making speed, accuracy, and teamwork critical to our success.

The Food Runner ensures every plate is delivered quickly, accurately, and professionally while supporting servers, kitchen staff, and managers in creating an exceptional guest experience.

Essential Responsibilities

Food Delivery

• Deliver food quickly and accurately from the kitchen to guests.
• Verify each order before leaving the kitchen.
• Ensure all food is complete with appropriate sauces, condiments, and utensils.
• Announce and identify meals when delivering them to guests.
• Maintain food quality and presentation during delivery.
• Respond promptly to guest requests and communicate them to the appropriate team member.

Kitchen & Dining Room Support

• Maintain clear communication with kitchen staff regarding order status.
• Assist with organizing food in the service window.
• Keep expo and service stations clean and organized.
• Assist servers by clearing plates, refilling water, and resetting tables when appropriate.
• Help maintain cleanliness throughout the dining room.
• Support the restaurant wherever needed during busy periods.

Teamwork

• Work closely with cooks, expeditors, servers, bussers, bartenders, and managers.
• Communicate respectfully and efficiently.
• Maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
• Help ensure every guest receives timely and accurate service.

Barback

Position Summary

At Ocean Mist, our Barbacks are the backbone of our bar operation. During our busy summer season, our bartenders serve hundreds of guests each shift, and the Barback plays a vital role in keeping the bar stocked, organized, clean, and operating efficiently.

This position requires energy, urgency, teamwork, and attention to detail. A successful Barback anticipates the needs of the bartenders, works quickly without sacrificing quality, and helps create an exceptional guest experience behind the scenes.

Essential Responsibilities

Bar Support

• Keep all bars fully stocked with beer, liquor, wine, mixers, garnishes, ice, cups, and supplies throughout each shift.
• Refill ice bins frequently and safely.
• Change beer kegs quickly and efficiently.
• Restock coolers and liquor bottles before and during service.
• Prepare garnishes, juices, and other bar ingredients.
• Maintain clean and organized workstations for bartenders.

Operations

• Remove empty bottles, cardboard, and trash promptly.
• Wash and polish glassware as needed.
• Keep storage areas organized and well stocked.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages to management.
• Assist with opening, closing, and side work duties.
• Follow all sanitation, food safety, and responsible alcohol service standards.

Teamwork

• Anticipate bartender needs before they ask.
• Communicate effectively with bartenders, managers, kitchen staff, and fellow support staff.
• Maintain a positive attitude while working under pressure.
• Assist other departments when business demands require.

Hostess

Position Summary

At Ocean Mist, our Host/Hostess is the first impression every guest receives. Located directly on Matunuck Beach, we welcome thousands of guests each week during our busy summer season. We do not accept reservations, making our hosts a critical part of providing a fair, organized, and enjoyable guest experience.

The Host/Hostess manages our first-come, first-served seating system, communicates accurate wait times, coordinates table availability with the service team, and ensures guests feel welcomed from the moment they arrive. This role requires professionalism, confidence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and positive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Guest Experience

• Welcome every guest with a friendly, upbeat, and professional attitude.
• Explain Ocean Mist's first-come, first-served seating policy consistently and courteously.
• Manage the waitlist accurately and fairly.
• Provide realistic wait time estimates and update guests if conditions change.
• Seat guests efficiently while maintaining balanced server sections.
• Assist guests with questions regarding dining, live entertainment, and restaurant policies.
• Handle guest concerns professionally and involve management when appropriate.
• Thank guests for visiting and invite them back.

Restaurant Operations

• Communicate continuously with managers, servers, bartenders, bussers, and food runners regarding table availability.
• Monitor dining room flow to maximize seating without sacrificing service quality.
• Keep the host stand, entrance, and waiting areas clean, organized, and welcoming.
• Assist with table resets when necessary to improve seating efficiency.
• Monitor guest traffic and maintain safe entryways during busy periods.
• Answer incoming phone calls and provide accurate information regarding hours, entertainment schedules, and general inquiries.

Teamwork

• Support fellow team members during peak business periods.

Line Cook

We are seeking skilled and experienced Line Cooks to join our team in Matunuck! Locations include Ocean Mist and The Pub. We invite you to apply if you are hard-working, punctual, and take pride in consistently producing satisfying plates.

Responsibilities Include:

-  Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and gathering spices

-  Cook food items according to recipes and guidelines, ensuring proper portion sizes and presentation

-  Follow food safety and sanitation procedures to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment

-  Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely preparation and delivery of food orders

-  Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently

-  Follow all policies and procedures communicated by your Manager

Requirements:

-  At least one year experience as a Line Cook in a fast-paced restaurant or food service establishment

-  Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

-  Must be a team player with good communication and organizational skills

-  Knowledge of culinary techniques, safe food handling, and food preparation

-  Strong understanding of kitchen safety and sanitation practices

-  Ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume environment

Dishwasher/Kitchen Helper

We are looking to add reliable, hard-working members to our team in Matunuck! Locations include Ocean Mist and The Pub. No experience needed. We encourage you to apply if you are looking for a fun job by the beach!

Responsibilities include:

-    Wash and sanitize plates, utensils, and cooking equipment and return clean items to their storage areas in a quick and organized fashion.

-    Assist cooks by helping to restock stations when supplies run low.

-    At times, assist in basic food preparation (such as portioning etc.)

-    Responsible for cleanliness of dish station and assisting team members in general kitchen support tasks.

-    No work experience needed. We will train, making this a perfect first job or summer job.

-    Great opportunity to learn the flow of a restaurant kitchen and advance to becoming a line cook or more.
