Our Story

Spanning over three decades, the Ocean Mist is celebrated as a Rhode Island institution and home for many locals and returning destination visitors to experience the best sunsets in the state, top-shelf live entertainment, and great food!

With oceanfront views, breakfast served daily, local beers on draft, weekly events and a calendar full of regional and national live performances, the Ocean Mist offers a little bit of everything, any time of the year.

1940's

Originally built and operated as Carpenter's Bar and Grill, the beachfront restaurant catered to the local surfers, daily beach-goers, and summer community of the neighboring campgrounds - recognized as Mary Carpenters Beach Meadow and Roy Carpenters Beach.an old photo of a beach

After many changes in names and ownership, and withstanding devastating damage from a series of memorable nor'easter storms, the Ocean Mist built itself back up and still resides in its original Matunuck Beach location since the 1930s.

In 1988, Kevin Finnegan bought the Ocean Mist. Growing up near Providence and enjoying summers in Matunuck, Finnegan had a clear vision in mind; to honor and preserve the past, while creating new opportunities for nightlife and live entertainment in the South County area.
